Stupid or Stupid ?

We have all heard from Jonathan Gruber this past week. Nearly all Americans have read or listened to Gruber calling Americans too Stupid for the Truth...At least anyone who has the slightest interest in politics knows about this. The problem is, was Gruber right about americans' stupidity ?

Health Reform or Obama care has been haunting us for a while now and who knows what is real or make believe ?  I do know, however, that Jonathan Gruber is definitely on to something.

I completely agree with him....Actually, I agree with the part about Americans' being stupid, but not about Health Care..  I am convinced that Americans' are stupid about Outlet Malls and the amount of money they think they are saving.

I conducted a little experiment today. I am not a snob by any means, but I have to agree that shopping in an outlet center is a complete waste of time...........unless of course you don't care what you buy and you don't care what you pay for it.  I qualify this by the fact that I was in the men's apparel business my entire life and probably sold every type of retail store in the country.  I know mark-ups, I know sale items, I know closeouts, and I am also very familiar with the shit that is made expressly for these shops, and the old, old, old, merchandise, seconds, returns, etc. , that are sold to these stores.

I am (or rather was) a big fan of Old Navy.  It was a great place to buy stuff for my son at really good prices... They recently closed the Old Navy store that I had always gone to and today went to a new one in this outlet center somewhere relatively close to my house.  It was an ugly day, and a Saturday to boot, so the center was pretty crowded with others like myself looking for something to do.  After finally finding a parking space I embarked into the Old Navy with a big smile on my face.  There was tons of inventory and huge signs everywhere with 30% and 40% all over the place...Wow, my son is going to get some great shit......But alas.  I searched the inventory and always wind up buying him t shirts, shorts, regular shirts, and on occasion something for me.  What a surprise when I realized this 30 and 40 % sign everywhere has nothing to do with price. In reality, everything was at least $2 and $3 more per item then it was in a regular Old Navy....That is really fucked.
I then went into Bed Bath and Beyond, TJ Maxx, and a few others and realized it was the same scenario there.  No Bargains...... Then it hit me.

Why isn't there a good discount strip club anywhere around ? Why not offer a discounted lap dance, or a discounted pole dance ?   There are more bored husbands walking around these outlet centers that would go there in a heartbeat.  It would be so great for the outlet centers business.  What bored husband would not want to drive his wife shopping whenever she wanted, drop her off, give her lots of money, and then be left alone for an hour or two?

Tell me he wouldn't want to grab a quick lunch, have a quick drink, see some local entertainment, and not complain like me that no bargains were there to be found.  So what if it was last seasons merchandise, so what if the pole was not first quality, and so what if the burger cost a buck or two more than anywhere else.  Once again, I really think I am on to something.  Thank you Jonathan Gruber for waking me up to the fact that Americans' might actually be stupid.
