I don't know about you, but I grew up watching cowboy movies on TV. Actually, back in the B & W days westerns were really the only cool stuff to
watch. Of course what does a 8 or 9 old know ? This photo is in color, but there was no color then. (
OMG, am I giving away my age?) Regardless, I still loved westerns. There was one problem however.......We did not have a television and living in the Bronx was a far cry from the wild west.
While most of those memories are not very clear, I do recall being allowed to go to my Aunt Sylvia's after my homework was done, and I was a good kid that day. My aunt lived in the very next building and was the only one I knew that had a TV. I know that we didn't get one for about 2 years after she had hers. I loved the 6 gun playhouse that was on daily at 5 PM. Some things you never forget. She was wonderful and looked forward to me coming. ( I think ) I was in heaven watching my westerns. It just seemed that everything was so simple. The good guys always rode a big white horse and at the end of the show, they managed to always get the bad guys. What could be more simple than that ?
The picture above looks somewhat like her TV, and actually the woman looked like my aunt. But didn't everyone look the same back in the day ? Well, watching the western was a treat.........except when the picture went off, or the snow was on the screen, or when the horizontal or vertical went haywire, or when it just stopped with a transmission problem. Oh, the pioneer days of television.....It is so hard to believe that we can whip out our blackberry or I Phone today and
watch almost anything on that in perfect color from a hand held device. Progress. Isn't it wonderful. But is it ? Sure we can
watch almost anything today except maybe for westerns.. There are programs about anything and always something for everyone. The westerns have been replaced by modern day cops and robbers, vampires, science fiction, and you name it. There is one significant factor that is missing. We used to know who the goods guys were and we always new they would come through in the end.........Guess What ???????????? That no longer works and the good guys don't necessarily win anymore. We have come a long way...........Or have we ?
