I am the same way. I wanted to know how come there are almost no more old time Jewish bakeries around. I wanted to know why these local bagel places charge such high prices for a bagel and coffee? I too wanted answers..... Well, several weeks ago I stumbled into a little out of the way Jewish bakery in West Palm. It's in a shopping center off Military and Okeechobee and I don't even know if it has a name other than Bakery. By accident I went in and it was early so I had a bagel with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. I am used to paying about $5.00 for this in my neighborhood , but lo and behold it was under $2.99 there. They had all kinds of great bakery products such as cakes, black and whites, danish, and all the good stuff (except pies) that I grew up with. Not only did it all look good, it was so reasonably priced. I am sure they don't bake there and probably bring everything in, but the amazing part is they are able to get quality products and still sell it for at least 50% less than the local supermarkets bakery departments. Plus, it is all very fresh.
They don't have lots of people working there and obviously keep their overhead to a minimum. They don't throw away what is not sold daily, but sell it for half price the following day. They don't advertise and unless someone told you about it, you would never find it. ( It is in a busy center with a nice farmers market, a Tuesday morning, and a bunch of other stores ). I believe the name is Starz Bakery.
I only bring this up because I am tired of hearing about bp and tired of reading about all the crooks, monsters, rapist, and all those other horrible things daily. This bakery is something that can do and guess what???? They know HOW to do it.
