Last night we had our annual End of the Season Party for those residents that will be returning North or wherever as the winter season comes to an end. It is a big thing for most of the people living here, especially for the fact that it only cost $10.00 per person. (Where can you possible have a terrific meal for that price? ) OK, so you had to also bring a side order or appetizer for all to share. And I should add , liquor or wine. (set ups provided) The idea and concept is really nice and there is one young lady in the building who does catering and always does a great job on these things. So here is the good part. This is due to start at 5.30 for cocktails and then dinner at about 6 or 6. 30. I never really understood "early bird", as I always considered that a late lunch. Once again good for a slightly mixed, but older crowd.
This dinner/party is located on the main floor in our condo, which is really quite nice. It is a big party room overlooking the ocean. OK, so you can see the ocean if you stand in one little portion of the room. I even went to this gala event,
which is a big thing, because I usually never go to these things unless threatened by some of my friends in the building. ( I was yesterday).
I showed up about 5.35 which was only 5 minutes fashionably late and saw about 55 people who were already attacking the appetizers and had every table reserved for their little clicks. ( Needless to say I am not a click person and those who know me also realize that I have absolutely no prejudice in me other than the fact I hate everyone equally. Well I managed to make my way through the turmoil and sit with some of the few friends that I have. ( I am sure there are many more, but I am not a click person and really like to mingle and have fun. ) Also, being single usually changes my social calendar. I was able to mingle and chat with a few people, while the others just sat there to feed their faces, bitch about the food, bitch about the problems in the building, rave about the good price of the dinner, and bitch about the Democrats, Republicans, weather, sports, pool temperature, building projects going on, board members, and other complaints that you can't even imagine.
By 6.30 half the people began to leave. Why not, they ate, drank, bitched, spent a night out, and all that for a mere $10.00.
I wanted to invite several people back to my apartment for espresso and sambuca, but for some reason that never happened. I did however look for the coffee and was told that was forgotten by the person in charge. Oh well, she did everything else so great that I didn't even bitch to her about that.
The pictures do however show some nice table arrangements, great dancing, and wonderful decorations with everyone having a great time. This certainly goes to show you that you cannot believe anything you read or see.
But at the end of the day, it was very nice and I personally hope all the residents leaving florida have a nice , safe summer. I am also thrilled to death that traffic will subside and my road rage should subside as well.
Anyone living in a condominium in So. Florida will certainly appreciate the above.
Larry,
ReplyDeleteFirst thank you for the compliment. I'm glad you enjoyed the party. I agree with you that every one ate like it was 2012 and they would not be eating again for awhile or ever again if what they say is true of the year 2012. If it was up to the Social Committee. Cocktails would have been served at 7PM and dinner at 9PM but that would have made a few Early Birders upset.
OK A Big Confession or should I say damn Lie. I did not forget to make the coffee. I am a caterer. I do not forget those things. Who the hell wants to clean that big frggin pot with only a few people drinking it or people bitching that we did not have decaf and regular. Next year I will listen to you and have everything catered so the Social Committee can be known as the Royal Princess's Committee. Keep making me laugh.
